Last-16 concludes with Egypt-Ivory Coast showdown

The last-16 round at the Africa Cup of Nations concludes on Wednesday with two more big games, including Egypt taking on Ivory Coast in a highly-anticipated contest in Douala.

The Ivory Coast-Egypt showdown is the first game to get underway, kicking-off at 16:00, and there will be plenty of interest in the clash with several Premier League stars set to be on show.

Egypt are, of course, led by Liverpool talisman Mo Salah but the Pharaohs have not exactly hit the heights in the tournament yet, losing 1-0 to Nigeria in their opening group game before narrow 1-0 wins over both Guinea-Bissau and Sudan saw them through to the knockout stage.

There is a feeling there’s more to come from Salah and co but the likes of their other Premier League players, Trezeguet and Mohamed Elneny, will need to step up if they are to get past a dangerous Ivory Coast.

The Ivory Coast have built nicely into the tournament and are unbeaten so far. The Elephants edged out Equatorial Guinea 1-0 in their first group game, before being held by Sierra Leone 2-2. However, they looked much better when dumping reigning champions Algeria out as they won their final group game 3-1 and they should approach this clash with Egypt with plenty of confidence.

Ivory Coast have a squad littered with players who ply their trade in the top European leagues, including Eric Bailly, Franck Kessie, Maxwel Cornet, Wilfried Zaha and Sebastien Haller, and are 13/10 to win in the full-time result market. Egypt are 11/4 and a draw at 90 minutes is 19/10.

The winners will face Morocco in the last eight on Sunday.

In the later game, Mali play Equatorial Guinea for a place in the quarters. Mali, who finished top of Group F, are 3/4 to win in normal time, Equatorial Guinea are 5/1 to cause a shock and the draw at 90 minutes is 11/5.

The winners of that clash will take on Senegal in the quarter-finals after they beat Cape Verde 2-0 on Tuesday to progress.
