Cameroon prepare for Egypt test

With Senegal already booking their place in the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, Cameroon and Egypt will battle it out on Thursday evening in the second semi-final at the Olembe Stadium, Yaounde (Cameroon 5/4, Draw 9/5, Egypt 3/1 – Match Result).

Senegal are just one step away from winning their first AFCON title, having finished runner-up in 2002 and 2019, and they can be backed at 5/6 to end their long wait for the trophy.

Cameroon are aiming for a sixth title, which they are priced at 2/1 to achieve, while Egypt are looking for a record-extending seventh triumph in the tournament and they are available at 7/2.

The Indomitable Lions defeated Gambia 2-0 in the quarter-finals to reach this stage and they are the top scorers in the tournament with 11 strikes, with Vincent Aboubakar and Karl Toko Ekambi netting six and five times, respectively.

As for Egypt, they required extra time to edge past Morocco 2-1 last time out but they will be buoyed by the form of Liverpool’s Mohamed Salah, who grabbed his second goal at AFCON 2021 in that victory.

Hosts Cameroon are aiming to become the 11th different country to win the tournament on home soil and the first since Egypt accomplished this feat for the second time in 2006.

Africa Cup of Nations Betting Odds

Thursday’s contest will be a repeat of the AFCON final in 2017, when The Indomitable Lions secured a 2-1 victory, and this game has all the making to be an exciting contest.

Cameroon have no injury issues to contend with and are expected to field the same team from their semi-final victory, however, Egypt are facing selection problems heading into the fixture.

The Pharaohs remain without Hamdi Fathi and Akram Tawfik due to injury, while they will also have to make do without Ahmed Hegazi, who picked up an injury in the Morocco clash and was substituted at half-time.

Egypt are also down to their third goalkeeper following injuries to Mohamed El-Shenawy and Gabaski, meaning Mohamed Sobhi will make just his second appearance for the national side following his debut in the Morocco game.
