49ers QB Jimmy Garoppolo Reacts To NFC Championship Loss, Uncertain Future
February 1, 2022 By Ryan Ward
The San Francisco 49ers’ crushing loss to the Los Angeles Rams in the NFC championship game sends the franchise into the offseason facing their biggest question regarding Jimmy Garoppolo’s future.
Garoppolo’s sealed his team’s fate on the final drive after throwing a last-second pass to wide receiver JaMychal Hasty that was intercepted by Rams linebacker Travin Howard.
After the contest, the 30-year-old voiced his disappointment concerning the loss while airing his appreciation toward the franchise.
“[The emotions] hit pretty hard in the locker room,” Garoppolo said via ESPN. “I think these next couple of days it will really start to settle in a little bit. Emotions are high after a game win or loss, and it’s one of those things you’ve got to be glad it happened, smile from it, and think about the good things. We’ll see what happens in these next couple days, weeks, whatever, but I love this team. Just the fight and the battle in this team throughout the entire year has been really impressive. I love those guys.”
Garoppolo has likely taken his final snap in a 49ers uniform as he heads into the final year of his five-year, $137.5 million contract. He holds only a $1.4 million dead cap hit for the 2022 season if San Francisco elects to part ways with him this upcoming offseason.

San Francisco experienced much success with him as the starter, holding a 35-16 record. It includes a 4-2 playoff record highlighted by reaching Super Bowl 54.
The 49ers will head into the 2022 campaign with Trey Lance under center after moving up in last year’s draft to take him with the third overall pick.
